Help for your GCSE & GCE courses

Use this part of the website to find resources which support topics covered by your exam courses. Illustration of a student raising their hand with a speech bubble containing a question mark.

All our resources contain original documents with transcripts. They also have helpful background notes for context and notes for teachers about the activities.

The lessons are designed to support your learning with primary sources. Our themed collections of documents allow you to research more independently. They contain larger numbers of original documents with transcripts and audio transcripts covering a vast number of topics. These themed collections could also be a starting point for a history based Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) or project based on your own independent research

Our finding aids on Black and Minority Ethnic Histories and Women’s Histories can help you find more documents and research a wide range of people and their stories.

If you are looking for video, our specialist guides on The National Archives’ various collections are created to cover your exam topics too. See the full list of the Spotlight On videos.

Lastly our quizzes allow you to quickly fact check your knowledge on a range of topics  from Hitler’s Germany to the English Civil War.

Our resource lists follow topics specified by the exam boards. They are not exhaustive, and we will continue to add to these lists to help.
