What do I need to know before I send you my local history story?

Entry

  • The competition is free to enter
  • Entry is open to both British Association for Local History members and non-members
  • Officers and Trustees of the British Association for Local History and their immediate families are ineligible from entering the competition.
  • Members of The National Archives staff are ineligible from entering the competition.
  • Local history stories must relate to the areas covered by the 1921 Census of England & Wales (England, Wales, the Isle of Man and the Channel Islands)
  • Each competitor will be able to submit up to three entries only

Privacy

  • By entering this competition you agree that your name and local history story may be published online by either The National Archives or British Association for Local History.
  • If you are a winner or runner up of this competition, we will publish the local history story online, along with your name on The National Archives and/or British Association for Local History websites.
  • All information submitted as part of this competition will be held for the duration of the competition and for 28 days after the winners and runners up have been announced, after which all information held will be deleted.
  • The information and any supporting material you provide will not be stored by The National Archives or the British Association for Local History, either physically or digitally beyond documenting its use in relation to this competition.
  • Competition submissions will be given to judges without your name and email address; however any text or supporting information you provide us when telling us your local history story will be sent in full. Therefore please avoid including personal details or any details that may identify a living individual when submitting your story, otherwise we will not be able to accept your entry.
  • We will only use your contact details for marketing purposes unless you have given us your consent and opted in to be contacted about future competitions, surveys, events, workshops or updates from The National Archives and/or British Association for Local History.

Competition dates

The competition will be open until 23:55 on Tuesday 31 January 2023. The winners and runners up will be announced in May 2023.
