‘Photograph of novelty in sand, Bournemouth beach, of ‘Britannia Mourns – Captain Smith and Baby – the Plucky Little Countess’.” A notice and imitation lifebelt by the sculpture read ‘Women and Children First’ and ‘To the Heroes of the Titanic’.  ‘The plucky little countess’ was Noëlle, Countess of Rothes, a passenger who rowed the survivors on Lifeboat no. 8 until their rescue by the RMS Carpathia, (Catalogue ref: COPY 1/1566/f70)
