Importing Chinese Labourers

In these two letters to Lord Stanley, the Secretary of State for the Colonies, emigration agents Cavan Brothers & Co. and Reid Irving & Co. request licences for plantation owners in the West Indies to import Chinese labourers from the British Settlements in the Straits of Malacca. They request 300 labourers for Trinidad and 400 for British Guiana.
