Copyright statements in official publications

OGL symbolYou must include appropriate copyright and re-use statements in all government publications, whether published in print or digital form. The inclusion of these statements confirms where ownership of the copyright rests and also facilitates the re-use of the information.

Failure to include these statements in Command and House of Commons Papers will lead to the Journal Office in the House of Commons rejecting the document so that it will not be laid before Parliament. These statements can also be used in other types of departmental publications and un-numbered Act Papers.

The statement is included on the title verso page of Command and House of Commons Papers (page 2).

Crown copyright statements for Command, House of Commons and un-numbered Act Papers

The following statement must be included in all Command Papers and in House of Commons papers where the content has been produced by civil servants and/or ministers. Organisations should include the Open Government Licence (OGL) symbol  at the top of the statement. Edit the text in bold as required.

If you belong to a non-Crown body, you can license your documents under the Open Government Licence by using the statement below. Edit the text in bold as required:

Publications for which the copyright has been assigned to the Crown

This covers those circumstances where the author of the publication is not a Crown servant or minister but has assigned the copyright to the Crown. This can occur where a government organisation has commissioned an author or organisation to produce a report or research. Copyright can also come into the ownership of the Crown when a non-Crown organisation is abolished, and its assets transferred to its parent department. Edit the text in bold as required:
