  HO 73/3, extract from list of ways police are useful. The authorities in London obviously found it very useful to have the Metropolitan Police available for all kinds of duties apart from tackling crime. This extract is just some of the 61 such duties listed in 1839.
  In these documents, look for ways in which the new police were finding their way, dealing with crime and the public.
In Source 1, look for police actions which were: helpful to the public, helpful to the authorities, keeping good order in the streets, dealing with crime. Why was it a good thing for the police to have good relations with the public?
