HO73/4, extract from Ipswich quarter
sessions. In this extract, the chairman of the Ipswich magistrates
in 1836 gives his views on the small force of Metropolitan Police
who were sent to Suffolk to deal with rural unrest and compares them
to the local police.
In these documents from five different
parts of England, look for: attitudes towards the Metropolitan
Police; attitudes towards the old, local constables; attitudes
towards setting up local police on Metropolitan lines.
