The Major Archive Projects Learning Exchange (MAPLE) was set up in autumn 2007 to support organisations planning or managing large archive projects; primarily capital developments. Over 80 organisations are members of the group, including local authority, university, national and specialist archives.
This networking group, facilitated by The National Archives, provides a forum for organisations to share their experiences, knowledge and plans via an email list and through sharing documentation.
The group meets three times a year to talk about progress of projects and explore common issues. Some recent discussion topics have included:
- Digital Preservation
- change management
- sustainability
- architect-client relationships
- partnership working
- logistics planning
- demonstrating wider impacts from capital investment
Meetings often provide an opportunity to visit completed capital projects. Recent meetings have taken place at:
- Explore York
- Bethlem Museum of the Mind
- Gloucestershire Archives
- The Keep
- Wolverhampton Archives
- Hull History Centre
If you are planning a large-scale project, or willing to contribute your own experience of managing a capital project involving archive provision, then please join the group.
Alternatively if you have problems joining, or to find out more, please email the team.
