Licensing digitised collections

The National Archives began digitising government records in the early 21st century, with the 1861-1891 censuses. Today, more than 80 million images have been digitised and many are available for image purchase and licensing.

These digitised collections tend to focus on genealogy; however, increasingly many are also available for academic publishing.

Prices per image vary dependent on whether black and white, or colour. Typically black and white images digitised from microfiche/film are set @10 pence per image, with colour digitised from the original records set @20 pence per image. A minimum royalty rate of 7% applies on most collections.
