This jingoistic poster, produced during the South African War (2nd
Boer War) of 1899-1902, encourages a view of the empire as a strong
and united entity. However, the British army had difficulty in defeating
the small irregular army of Boer farmers. In Britain, the length of
time it took to win the war led to a crisis of confidence regarding
national and imperial power.
