Page furniture

What is page furniture?

The terms  ‘page furniture’ or ‘publishing furniture’ are traditionally used to refer to content in publications that is not the main text or images.

If you are producing a Command or House Paper, contact the core supplier to ensure your paper has the latest page furniture as advised by The National Archives.

In Command and House Papers ‘page furniture’ is generally used to mean standardised content included on every paper’s copyright (or title verso) page.

This content is about the paper, not of it, and comprises publishing information similar to that found in books and magazines. The information includes: a copyright statement, a unique identifier – an international standard book number (ISBN), a printer statement including reference to the Controller of His Majesty’s Stationery Office and a statement about sustainability if the publication is printed. This page also includes the authoring organisation‘s contact details and the gov.uk location for laid papers, https://www.gov.uk/official-documents.

The copyright page is also used for the core supplier’s job ID numbers, design and other credits, plus references to third party copyrights.

The ISBN may also be added to the paper’s back cover.
