Map showing the achievements of one British Army division, September to December 1918
(Catalogue ref: WO 297/2556)
  • This map summarises the achievements of the 6th Division of the British Army during the hundred days. A division was about 15,000 men and by 1918 there were around 50 divisions in the British Army.
  • The lines, dates and flags drawn on the map show the advance of the division.
  • The source lists the prisoners and guns captured by this one division. Historians now know that Haig's armies took 188,700 prisoners and 2,840 guns during the hundred days.
  • This map is in two pieces. We've put one piece above the other so you can see the line of the advance more clearly. The original shape of the source was a plain rectangle, not the odd shape you see here.
