Armistice Temporary ceasefire, usually while warring sides agree treaty terms.
Invested Captured during war.
Dissipated Wasted or lost.
Bolsheviks Russian Communists led by Lenin.
Bolshevism Political ideas of the Bolshevik Party.This basically meant Communism.
Soviet Russian word meaning a workers council. Under Lenin, local villages and towns and even factories had their own Soviets. These were controlled by Communists who followed Lenin's orders. The local Soviets elected members to represent them at the supreme Soviet (a bit like the British Parliament) in Moscow.
SSSR The new name of Russia given to it by the Communists in 1924. The more common term is the USSR.
Ratification Making something legal (eg a treaty).
Bourgeoisie Term used to describe the middle classes, the wealthy, factory owners and any other people that Communists considered to be enemies of ordinary working people.
Proletariat Term usually used by Communists to describe ordinary workers.
Leninism The ideas of Communist leader Lenin.

Machinations Schemes and plans.
Treaty of Versailles Treaty signed in 1919 which officially ended the First World War. Germany had to accept blame for the war and severe restrictions on its armed forces. It also lost large amounts of territory.
