Edith Cavell

Drawing called: “Faith and Courage in death, an allegory of Edith Cavell” from the Illustrated London News. Edith Cavell (1865-1915) worked as a nurse in Belgium whilst it was occupied by Germany in the First World War. She helped British, French and Belgian soldiers escape and was arrested, tried and executed in 1915 by German authorities. (Catalogue ref: ZPER 34/147)
