Restoration of land, 1215

As well as restoring lands that had been confiscated during the recent civil war, John also resolved some much older disputes over land. King Richard I had refused to accept the count of Aumale’s claim to the manor of Driffield. Dated 1215 (C66/14).

Transcript

The king to William of Harcourt, etc. Know that we have restored to our beloved and faithful count of Aumale the right which he has in the manor of Driffield and we receive thereupon his homage. And therefore we order you to cause him to have full possession of that manor without delay with all the things which pertain to it. Myself as witness at Sandwich, on the 31st day of August.
