Death of Chief Luale

We regret to announce the death of Chief Luale, which occurred at a Louth nursing home on Tuesday morning, after a severe illness contracted early in January.

Chief Luale was a native of Africa and was 36 years of age. He was a well-educated man, a charming conversationalist and a born showman. He has been a tenant of Booth and Co.’s amusement parks at Skegness and Hunstanton for a period of five years, both with his ‘African Village’ and a menagerie of performing animals. He also operated a snake pit for the last two years. All his shows were splendidly fitted and proved very attractive to the park’s visitors.

At the outbreak of the War 1914-1918, Chief Luale joined the forces of the King-Emperor, enlisting in the Middlesex Regiment, and was gassed and badly wounded on active service.

He leaves a widow and a five-year old daughter, Joan, to whom much sympathy is extended.

Mr. J.W. Hurt, of Booth and Co., writes: ‘We would like to express our sincere grief at the passing of one whom we held in high regard. Amusement catering can ill afford to lose such a man as Chief Luale. He was a very good tenant and did all that was possible to please the public and give them a high standard of entertainment.’

The remains were cremated at Nottingham on Friday , May 3rd, this being in accordance with the Chief’s last wishes.
