Supplies of food, clothing etc to the asylum.

 

Visits to Sedgefield, Dunston, Bensham and Coxlodge, including details of individual patients.

 

Visits of the Commissioners in Lunacy.

 

For Newcastle City Council Mental Hospital Visiting Committee minutes 1892 - 1948 SEE MD/NC/141/1-10

 

This Committee began in 1889 as the City Lunatic Asylum Special Committee, becoming the Lunatic Asylum Visiting Committee in 1892. From 1819 the name was changed to the City Mental Hospital Visiting Committee, but in 1925 the word 'City' was dropped. It was discontinued in 1948 when responsibility for the hospital was transferred to the National Health Service. Volume 4 of the minutes includes the Northumberland War Hospital Sub Committee.

This was a special committee set up in response to the Mentally Deficiency Act 1913. It was discontinued in 1948 with the advent of the NHS
