Description:

Two codicils, 5 July 1880, 17 July 1881. Legacies the Reverend John Eld of Worcester Grammar School, Clerk in Holy Orders, £500 for acting as trustee. (2) To Mary Peake and Margaret Knowles, cousin of the testatrix, £1,500 each. (3) To Joseph Lowe, servant of the testatrix £2,550. (4) To Rev John Lucas Sutton of Allesley, Warws, £500. (5) To Algernon Sydney Field of Leamington Priors, friend of the testatrix £300. (6) To the record of Allesley, to be invested by his direction, re Allesley Parish School £500. (7) To the trustees of the Blue.Coat School, £500. (8) To the treasurer of the Coventry and Warwickshire Hospital, Coventry and the General Hospital, Birmingham, £1,000. (9) To the treasurer of the Warneford Hospital, Priors £1,000. (10) To the treasurer of the Asylum for the Blind, Edgbaston, Birmingham, £500. (11) To the treasurer for the Society of the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts £1,000. (12) To the treasurer of the Society for the Propagation of Christian Knowledge £500. (13) To the executors and trustees to pay to George Osmond, nephew of the testatrix (son of her late brother Thomas Osmond) on the death of the testatrix for life, to be divided between himself, his brothers and sisters on reaching the age of 21 or when they marry, £7,000; if George Osmond and his brothers and sisters leave no children, the monies are to be devised to whosoever George Osmond appoints. (14) To George Woodcock of Coventry, solicitor, cousin of the testatrix, all of the residue of her real and personal estate. (15) Any bequest made to a female is for her own separate use. (16) To George Woodcock, all estates vested in the testatrix as trustee and mortgagee. (17) All charitable bequests are to be receipted by the officials concerned. Trustees: the Reverend Francis John Eld, George Woodcock.

 

1st Codicil: confirms will and states that if beneficiaries resort to legal action in respect of the contents, the clauses in their favour will be revoked.

 

2nd Codicil: Legacy to the Reverend John Lucas Sutton revoked; to the Rector of Allesley for Eastern Green School, £500; bequests of £1,000 to the Warneford Hospital and the Society for the Propagation of the Gospel in Foreign Parts reduced to £500; bequest to Algernon Sydney Field increased from £300 to £1,000; bequests of several sums of £7,000 in trusts to the son and daughters of Thomas Osmond, brother of the testatrix deceased, George, Thomas, William, Arthur, Caroline, Amelia and Mary reduced to six sums, total £6,000, the monies to be invested in securities and on the death of the testatrix to be divided between the above parties on attaining the age of 21, or in the case of females marrying before that age, the sum to be redistributed if any of the said legatees die before the testatrix, without leaving heirs.

 

The testatrix died 6 July 1884. The will and codicils were proved at Birmingham Probate Registry.
