Digital access and licensed internet associates at The National Archives

FOI request reference: CAS-135021-C2R3D8
Publication date: August 2023

Request

According to the Annual Report and Accounts of TNA, in 2022/2023 “Electronic records delivered to online users was 350,000,000”. I would like to ask what this statistics include? Only access to digital documents on the websites of the Licensed Internet Associates or also access on the website the National Archives and the Discovery?
Is it possible to obtain information on how many institutions/organizations have now the status of Licensed Internet Associates? May I know their names and website addresses?

Outcome

Information provided.

Response

As indicated on page 6 of the Annual Report, over 350 million electronic images have been delivered to online users through our website and partners in 2022-23. (For clarity, please note this is the same figure as indicated in the table on page 35 of the Annual Report.) Not all of our licensees provide this information to us, so in reality, the figure is likely to be higher, hence the inexact nature of the number.

The National Archives no longer issues agreements under the ‘Licensed Internet Associates’ banner. We simply refer to ‘Licensees’, and have many in place with many different partners, both commercial and non-commercial.

Below is a list of licensing partners with Licensing Internet Associate agreements still in place, along with their corresponding websites:
