These albums cover Southern Railway civil engineering operations in the inter-war years. Morgan had special responsibility for bridges and these are well represented in the albums, which also include views of the construction of engine sheds, workshops, station buildings, wharves, power stations and the permanent way in and around London.

Administrative / biographical background:

Sydney Morgan trained as a civil engineer, working initially on designing bridges, buildings, piers, wharves and permanent way for colonial railways. He later worked for the Thames Ironworks & Shipbuilding Company and then the South Eastern & Chatham Railway, and on grouping in 1923 was employed by the Southern Railway.
