Lancing Carriage & Wagon Works was built in 1888 for the London, Brighton & South Coast Railway. On grouping in 1923 the works produced vehicles for the Southern Railway, and during the Second World War built aircraft components in addition to carriages and wagons. The Works was closed in 1962.
