Description:

Three colour photographs of the grave of Sir Richmond Campbell Shakespear, located at the Protestant Cemetery, Indore.

 

The grave bears the inscription: "To the Beloved Memory of Richmond Campbell Shakespear / died Octr 29 1861 / at the Residency, Indore / aged 42. / The righteous perisheth and / no man taketh it to heart / and mercyiful men are / taken away none considering / that the righteous is taken away from the evil / to come / Isaiah 7 VII 1".

 

Notes: (1) the reference of the inscription passage from Isaiah is, correctly, 57:1; (2) Richmond Campbell was 49 years of age at his death, not 42; (3) the three photographs were taken by Mrs Merilyn Hywel-Jones, January 2003.
