Administrative / biographical background:

The small holdings acquired by John, son and heir apparent of Stephen de Segrave (d. 1241), were granted by Stephen to his widow Emma and her second husband John de Grey. [BL Harl. MS 4748 f. 23d., a grant by Stephen to John for the life of Emma in dower.]. They do not occur later in Segrave hands and probably, like Henlow, remained with the Greys.
