Administrative / biographical background:

Stephen (I) de Segrave was granted lands there by Ranulph earl of Chester and by Hugh Daubeny, earl of Arundel; Hugh later took back his lands in exchange for others. Further lands there were settled on John and Christine de Segrave by Edmund earl of Arundel in 1314, probably for regrant to Stephen and Alice de Arundel. John acquired another holding, extending into Rushall and Barrow-upon-Soar, c. May 1314, and in his inquisition post mortem he held rents of 14s. 8d. in Garendon, Rushall and Quorndon in addition to the lands held by his father. The holding is not later mentioned separately in the muniments, and the Segrave Cartulary notes that it remained with Mountsorrel. See Barrow-upon-Soar, BCM/D/5/15.
