Administrative / biographical background:

John Pritchard, son of Robert Pritchard who kept a pressing shop in Halifax, entered into partnership c1854 with a Mr Balme and then with his son John William Balme. In 1879, 6 people including John Pritchard were killed in a boiler explosion at the West Croft Works, Lister Lane, Halifax.
