Contains: Untitled lecture by John Birkbeck II, c.1882 [21 sides]. Covering note by J.P. Farrar mentions Birkbeck's connection with the 1865 Matterhorn incident. Birkbeck had hired the guide Michael Croz in August 1865, but became ill, and passed Croz on to the Rev. Charles Hudson, with whom he died on the descent from the Matterhorn.
