Series Title: Original Fuhrerbucher Official Fuhrer-Buch issued to Rudolph Lochmatter by the Valais Canton, 1898, and containing testamonials written by climbers who had engaged him as a guide. The earlier entries (pp.87-99) were copied into the book from Rudolph's unofficial book (1922/K31) by a frequent employer of his, Arthur B. Thorold (AC). In 1900 Rudolph had a climbing acccident which caused him to lose his hand. The leaf that would have covered this expedition has been removed from the book (pp.109-110). Rudolph did not climb again until 1906 when entries resume. In 1907 Rudolph began an annual series of expeditions as a guide with Sydney Spencer. The entries from 1907-1922 (pp.117-126) were written into the journal by Spencer after Rudolph's death in 1923. Spencer also wrote Rudolph's obituary in the AJ vol. XXXV, p.98.
