The Wiltshire Society was established in 1817 to raise funds to apprentice the children of poor persons from Wiltshire, resident in London or in Wiltshire, to lend money to establish them in business, or to enable them to go to sea or attend practical science school. The apprentice registers 1817-1922 have been printed by the Wiltshire Record Society Vol. 51 (1997).
