Administrative / biographical background:

The Commissioners were established by an 'Act for amending the roads and highways in the Isle of Wight' which was passed in 1813

 

In April 1895 the responsibilities of the Commissioners were transferred to the Isle of Wight Rural District Council, and the Commissioners ceased to exist by virtue of section 25 of the 1894 Local Government Act.
