Warriner family of Weston Park, Warwickshire

The origins of the Warriner family are to be sought not in Warwickshire or Oxfordshire, but in Nottinghamshire at Tuxford and Laneham. The Laneham Warriners were trades people and one member of the family, George Warriner I (1745-1822), left home at some time in the later 18th century and went to London where he set up as a linen draper with Enoch Hodgkinson, another Laneham man, at 124 New Bond Street. In the 1790's the Warriners lived in London: apart from the shop in the New Bond Street, the family's home was at Lisson Grove. It was probably not until 1797 that George bought Bloxham Grove near Banbury, Oxfordshire, and this was to be the family's home for over a hundred years, until its sale in 1915. In 1918 the third Earl of Camperdown died: one of his seats had been Weston House, Warwickshire and this he left to George Warriner I's great-grandson, Henry Arthur Warriner (1859-1927), who had been his estate agent. The earlier family papers have been extensively used by Colonel M. H. Warriner in his account of The Warriner family a copy of which is to be found in the County Record Office Library.
