Administrative / biographical background:

Further to Local Government Act of 1858, Ryton Local Board was formed at a meeting held in the Parish Vestry on 12 March 1853. This new authority covered the townships of Ryton; Ryton-Woodside and Crawcrook. The authority became Ryton UDC on 14 January 1895.

 

Further to the Local Government Act of 1972 Ryton UDC was abolished, the final council meeting being held on 27 March 1974.

 

Ryton now falls within the boundaries of Gateshead MBC.
