The Association was founded in 1917 when a small field adjoining the Children's Hospital, Dryden Road, Gateshead was leased from the Trustees of the Thomas Powell Almshouses Charity to be converted into allotments. The Association was wound up in 1991 and all remaining funds were donated to charity.
