Administrative / biographical background:

Amongst its activities the Council ran two eventide homes: Bowland Lodge, Western Avenue, Newcastle and Midhurst, Midhurst Road, Benton.

 

The chaplaincy committee recommended purchasing an eventide home in 1942. Bowland Lodge was purchased and opened in 1948. Midhurst was purchased later and sold in 1970. Bowland Lodge was sold in 1996.
