South Shields Maternity Hospital was built by South Shields Corporation as part of the General Hospital [see HO.SSG] in 1939. In September 1953, it was split from the General to become a hospital in its own right. The Maternity and Birth registers have been listed here together, as they form a complete series from the General Hospital through to the Maternity Hospital. |
