Administrative / biographical background:

Sunderland Hospital Management Committee administered four hospitals for the treatment of tuberculosis. These were Boldon Sanatorium, Grindon Hall Sanatorium, Havelock Hospital and Seaham Hall Sanatorium. The latter was formerly known as Seaham House and was owned by the Marquess of Londonderry. The poet Byron was married there in 1815. It now functions as a hotel.
