The Company was incorporated by an Ordinary of 1675 which cites its membership as being 6 upholsterers, 3 tinplateworkers and 2 stationers. The body was to annually choose 4 stewards; 2 of which had to be upholsterers and one each from the other two trades. This guild eventually came to be largely composed of printers. Thomas Bewick the artist and engraver was apprenticed to a guild member and went on to be a member himself. The Company met annually on July 25th at an apartment in the Town Court. |
