Administrative / biographical background:

Joseph Cook, Sons and Company, Ltd. was an iron and steel foundry, arising in 1900 out of Washington Iron Works which started by C. and J. Cook sometime before 1860. It was based at Washington Station and remained a family business with James Falshaw Cook being appointed joint Managing Director in 1925. It is not clear when the company ceased operating however reports from 1927 indicate severe financial difficulties.
