Administrative / biographical background: |
Established 1898 as the Westmoor Engine Works Co Ltd by Ernie Lynn and Tommy Allen. There may have been some connection with John Lynn, Engineers already established in Pallion. Westmoor was bought by Arthur Kingsley Ward in 1930 and remains in the Ward family. Specialising in watertight doors for ships, early production also included other general engineering including steam engines, often but not entirely, for local shipyards. With the demise of local shipbuilding specialist doors and hatches have been made for export and other uses such as protection from nuclear, biological and chemical contamination. |
