Administrative / biographical background:

Opened in 1822 as Southwick Wesleyan Chapel, it moved to The Green at Southwick in 1865. In Whitburn Street then St. Johns Circuit [see MC.Su2] in early part of 20th century, and then in Sunderland North [MC.Sul] in 1965 the church closed, and the Society united with Clockwell Street [C.Su51] as Southwick (New Society), until moving to new premises at Old Mill Lane in 1966 [see C.Su66].
