Administrative / biographical background:

Originally known as Monkwearmouth Chapel this Wesleyan church was at the head of its own circuit from 1867, but this arrangement was unsuccessful, and by 1880 the church was part of Sans Street Circuit (MC.Su2). In around 1907 it was transferred into Sunderland Wesleyan Mission Circuit (MC.Su3). The church was closed in 1939
