Administrative / biographical background:

Park Road Methodist Church was founded in 1887 as the new home of the former Zion Chapel congregation. It was originally part of the Methodist New Connexion, which joined the United Methodist Church in 1907. Sans Street Methodist Church merged with this in 1963. Other congregations which merged with Park Road between 1934-1981 were High Street East, Hendon (incorporating Mainsforth Terrace), South Durham Street (with Tatham Street) and Grangetown.
