Administrative / biographical background:

On 19 October 1871 the Vestry created part of the parish a Special Drainage District under the 1866 Sanitary Act, and constituted a sewage authority under an act of 1865. This sewage authority functioned until the advent of South Shields Rural Sanitary Authority in 1872 when functions were transferred.

 

Whitburn C.P. was abolished on 1 April 1936 and the area divided between South Shields C.P. and Boldon Urban District Council/Civil Parish.
