Administrative / biographical background:

Prior to 1912 St Charles Roman Catholic Church was the sole Catholic Church in Gosforth and was known at that time as the Church of the Sacred Heart and St Charles.

 

In 1912 a new parish was formed in North Gosforth with its own church, the Church of the Sacred Heart. On the creation of this new parish the church in Gosforth became known as St Charles RC Church.
