Administrative / biographical background:

This was set up in January 1926 as The Northumberland and Durham Mineral Water, Ale and Porter Bottle Exchange and Trade Protection Society [Beer Bottlers Section] but changed its name to the above shortly afterwards. Members came from the bottle making and brewing industries, meeting quarterly in order to fix prices and thus protect their interests. Representatives came from firms all over the area initially but the Association stopped meeting in 1983 due to lack of support.
