Granted to John Hasele, Dean, and the Chapter of Chichester, to accept a grant from John Smowlyng, mayor, and the citizens of Chichester.

 

A certain vacant site in West St., Chichester, in front of the Close of the Cathedral, 131' x 12', held in free burgage tenure.

 

Consideration: 10s. paid to the Hanaper by John Hasele.

Physical condition: Seal: white wax, on parchment tags, a fragment only. Obverse: The Virgin and Child, between two figures, all in canopied niches. Reverse: Figure [mounted and] in full armour, with crested helmet, holding a shield. (The two faces of this seal have been joined with repair wax. It is possible that the obverse has been taken from another document, since the Great Seal would normally have the king enthroned on the obverse.)
