Description:

By (a) William de Nevill, treasurer of Chichester, to (b) the Church of the Holy Trinity and the Dean and Chapter of Chichester, to establish a chaplaincy.

 

Rent of 5 marks p.a. paid by Ralph de Wodeford on land at Medliers (and a rent of 2 marks which he paid on land at Rumbrugg - deleted) according to the charter granted by Ralph de Dive, knight (and the charters of Robert of Rumbrugg - deleted). Of this (one mark to the Dean and Chapter for their own use - deleted) the remaining 5 (6 deleted) marks for a chaplain to celebrate for (a) at the altar of St. Mary Magdalene, the chaplain to be appointed by (b) after (a)'s death.

 

Also one silver chalice, two chasubles, one new and one not, two pairs of vestments, that is two new albs with stoles and maniples.

 

One missal and one book called Portehors, without notes, and two silver cruets. These objects are to be handed back to (b) when the chaplaincy is vacant, to be handed on to the new chaplain.

 

Also 10s. to (b) to distribute in the choir on the Feast of St. Edmund the Confessor, so that every vicar in the choir and the chaplain who celebrates, if it is High Mass, shall have 2d., the canons in the choir to have the rest. The Dean and Chapter shall receive the 10s. at Burne, from John de Belcomb (6s.) and John le Cupare (4s.).

Endorsed: Of the rent of 10s. assigned for wine on the Feast of St. Edmund, confessor.
