Title: Hastings County Borough Council: indexes to Borough Engineers' plan series
Description:

DH/C/2/1 is divided by the type of undertaking and, within this, plans are listed chronologically and are given a running number. Some plans have been crossed out and it is assumed that these have been destroyed. The original locations of the plans by cupboard and drawer numbers are also given. These locations were altered at some point and a list of the alterations has been stuck in at the front of the volume. The drawer numbers were then reused for other plans. The list includes plans up to the early 1930s but then the additions become less frequent. The plans were split at some point and were stored on two floors of the Borough Engineers offices at [38] Wellington Square. It is therefore necessary to check with DH/C/2/2-5 for the correct location of the plans.

DH/C/2/2-5 are indexes compiled from the late 1950s to cope with the relocation of plans. Some plans are also included which are not in DH/C/2/1. The plans are indexed alphabetically but the indexing is not very consistent. Therefore, although the majority are listed by the street or area, some plans are indexed under a building if significant, for example, a school, some under the type of work, for example, groynes, and some by the name of the project, for example,. Parade Extension.
