Title: | WEST SURREY AND NORTH EAST HAMPSHIRE HEALTH AUTHORITY AND CONSTITUENT HOSPITALS, RECORDS |
Description: |
The records deposited chiefly relate to Farnham, Frimley and Camberley in Surrey and Aldershot, Farnborough and Fleet in Hampshire. The records broadly divide into those generated by autonomous hospitals before the establishment of the National Health Service in 1948 (-/1/- to -/3/- below) and those of the NHS's local boards and committees which replaced the hospitals' own committees of management (-/4/- to -/6/- below). From 1948 the management of the hospitals in this area was the responsibility of the Farnham Group Hospital Management Committee (-/4/-), with House Committees, covering single hospitals or small groups, acting as liaison bodies with responsibility for day to day matters (-/5/-). In 1972 the Farnham and Brookwood Groups Hospital Management Committees were amalgamated and elected House Committees discontinued, their place being taken by small groups of nominated members of the new HMC who were responsible for the oversight of sub-groups of hospitals (-/6/-). |
