Dr Poley Clopton died in 1730, and, by his will, endowed a charity to establish an almshouse or asylum for 12 poor men and women of the parishes of St James and St Mary. Dr Clopton endowed the charity with lands in Foxearth, Liston, Stisted, and Braintree, Co Essex, mainly Western Hall Farm, Foxearth, and Raynehatch and Kirkham alias Barn alias Church Farms in Stisted. |
