The firm began as machinists and tool makers in Winson Green, Birmingham, but became best known for the manufacture of patent chain wheels and cranks for bicycles from the 1890s at Foundry Lane, Smethwick. The history of the Williams family and the early years of the firm are chronicled in full by Oliver Brown in his unpublished history of the firm "The Williams Story 1800-1925" (ref: D4466/J/1). |
